Who we are
Jyothisa is an AI service that reads Kerala-style Vedic charts and answers questions about them. In this policy "we", "us" and "Jyothisa" mean the operator of jyothisa.com. For anything in this policy you can write to hello@jyothisa.com.
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described here, and you are the Data Principal.
What we collect
We collect a few kinds of information, and no more than we need for each.
- Birth details
- Your date of birth, time of birth and place of birth. If you ask for a porutham (marriage compatibility) reading, the birth details you enter for the other person. This is the input to every calculation we run.
- Account details
- The details you sign in with, such as an email address or phone number, and your display name if you give one.
- Your conversations
- The questions you ask, and the readings we generate in reply. These are stored so your chat history is there when you come back, and so a reading can refer to what you asked earlier.
- Payment records
- The amount, date, pack purchased and the reference id Razorpay returns. We do not receive or store your card number, CVV, UPI PIN or bank credentials.
- Technical data
- IP address, browser and device type, pages visited and rough location derived from the IP address. This is ordinary web server and analytics data, collected for security and to understand which parts of the site people use.
Sensitive by nature. Birth details and the questions people ask an astrologer can reveal a lot: health worries, money trouble, marriage difficulties, plans to move abroad. We treat all of it as confidential and restrict access to the few people who need it to run and fix the service.
How we use it
- To calculate your chart: lagnam, nakshatram, grahanila, dashas, yogas and current transits.
- To generate readings in answer to your questions, and to show the ganitham beside each one.
- To keep your chart and chat history available in your account.
- To track your free messages and the balance of any pack you buy.
- To take payments and keep a record of them.
- To keep the service secure: detect abuse, fraud and automated scraping.
- To fix problems, measure which features are used, and improve the service.
- To answer you when you write to us for support.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your personal data, share it with data brokers, use it to target advertising, or let anyone outside the service browse your questions.
How AI processing works
Your readings are generated by a large language model, grounded in the chart we calculate for you, today’s transits, and a library of Malayalam Jyothisham reference material. To produce a reading, the relevant parts of your chart and your question are sent to the AI provider that runs the model.
The AI provider processes that data on our behalf, to produce the reading we have asked it for.
No human astrologer is employed to read or answer your questions. A small number of our engineers can access stored conversations when they are debugging a specific problem or investigating abuse.
How long we keep it
- Chart and birth details
- For as long as your account is open, because your chart is the basis of every reading.
- Conversations
- For as long as your account is open, so your history is there when you return.
- Payment records
- For as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep them. This applies even after you delete your account.
- Server and security logs
- For a limited period, after which they are discarded.
- After you delete your account
- Your chart, birth details and conversations are deleted, apart from the financial records above and anything we are required to keep by law.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can:
- Ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and who we have shared it with.
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate, or complete anything missing. You can edit your birth details in the app at any time.
- Ask us to erase your data, unless we are required by law to keep it.
- Withdraw the consent you gave us. This does not undo processing we already did lawfully, and it may mean we can no longer provide the service.
- Nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become incapacitated.
- Complain to us, and if you are not satisfied, to the Data Protection Board of India.
To exercise any of these, write to hello@jyothisa.com from the address on your account. We will respond within the time the law allows.
How we protect it
- Traffic between you and Jyothisa is encrypted in transit with HTTPS.
- We do not store card, UPI or bank credentials, so there are none to lose.
- Access to systems holding personal data is restricted to the people who need it.
No service can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your personal data we will notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires. If you spot a security problem, please write to hello@jyothisa.com.
Children
Jyothisa is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us their data, write to us and we will delete it.
Where your data goes
Some of our service providers process data on servers outside India. Where that happens we rely on contractual protections with the provider, and on the transfer being permitted under Indian law.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. For a change that materially affects how we use your data, we will take reasonable steps to tell you.
Contact and complaints
For any question, request or complaint about privacy, write to hello@jyothisa.com.
Complaints are handled within the timelines set by the applicable rules. If you are not satisfied with how we have dealt with one, you can take it to the Data Protection Board of India.
